Chatsworth Road, London
The residential victorian garden flat with beautiful original period features was built around 1900 and urged for a new touch.
Wooden double glazed sash-windows replaced all the old, leaky single glazed ones. Cracking ceilings were taken down and renewed, stucco was restored, walls re-plastered and brickwork re-pointed. Some walls were stripped down to expose the original brickwork. The rear garden windows and brickwork were removed to fit some large garden doors measuring full ceiling height to access the newly planted and with a wooden deck equipped private garden. The bathroom was refurbished, enlarged and provided with natural light and nostalgic fixtures.
Some of the furniture were made of recycled materials, such as the reclaimed brick washstand, the chest of drawers made of wine boxes and the wardrobe made of old wooden planks. These used materials set in a modern context create the warm atmosphere and shabby-chic character that we intended. The highlight of the flat is the Indian door out of beautifully weathered wood, which we fitted between living- and bedroom to create an open plan space. The bespoke bed, was made out of reclaimed Indian wood that we selected.
